The 2025 Autumn Artist-in-Residence Program hosted its very first Open Studios event! In the art village’s exhibition spaces, the resident artists presented a selection of their past works, serving as a guide to their individual artistic trajectories. Through this contextual retrospective and in-depth explanation, they engaged in the most authentic and meaningful dialogue with the visitors.

As the Spring Artist-in-Residence Program draws to a close, the three resident artists come together before the end of their stay to share their daily lives, creative journeys, and inspiring experiences at Grand View Art Village.

Grand View Art Village hosted its second Open Studios event for the Spring Artist-in-Residence Program! Artist Maiko Sugano led a guided tour of the outdoor shelter and studio space she co-constructed with local construction partners, sharing her experience working with artistic techniques since arriving in Taiwan. Peng Hsien-Hsiang invited the audience to participate in stacking his paper-pulp stone sculptures, while also exhibiting a series of delicate line drawings exploring stones and sleep disorders. Meanwhile, Hung Hsuan created a glass installation inspired by the eggs of lychee giant stink bugs, transforming an agricultural pest into imagery resembling bead embroidery. She also presented a public installation inspired by bird nests and street slogans, humorously addressing construction site hazards in response to her observations of local daily life.

Following the launch of the Spring Artist-in-Residence Program, Grand View Art Village hosted its very first Open Studios event! Three resident artists—Peng Hsien-Hsiang, Maiko Sugano, and Hung Hsuan—led visitors on an intimate journey into their creative processes and unique artistic personalities. The residency program aims to serve as a platform for dialogue between art and the local community. Through the artists’ keen observations and creative practices, the project rediscovers local details and uncovers a wealth of new possibilities for the region.

Under the artist’s guidance, participants wove intertwined threads as if gently untangling their thoughts, creating unique, textured pieces in a deeply peaceful atmosphere. Across the hallway, another studio became an “Aesthetic Snack Shop,” where visitors used local Hakka ingredients as paint and plates as canvases to craft memory-inspired dishes, experiencing a unique emotional impact by ultimately “consuming” their own artwork. Though separated by a corridor, both sessions gathered memories through different sensory forms, sparking resonance throughout the art village. Prior to the event, Chupei City Mayor Cheng Chao-Fang and NTMOFA Director Chen Kuang-Yi also visited to experience the programs, deepening their connection to the residency’s local engagement.

Following the launch of the Autumn Artist-in-Residence Program, the Grand View Art Village hosted its very first Open Studios event! Through an engaging conversation between CEO Yolanda Lin and the three resident artists—Fan Szu-Chi, Chen Ying-Ting, and Arsen—visitors gained an intimate look into each artist’s creative journey and unique personality. Three distinct art forms—crafts, painting, and performance—flowed through the space, sparking joy and deep inspiration. The artists prepared a rich variety of hands-on experiences for participants of all ages to explore, including weaving, body painting, and collective movement. On this beautiful weekend afternoon, the art village was transformed into an artistic playground, bringing an abundance of creative energy to Xinpu!

Over the past month, the artists traveled through Xinpu, Guanxi, Zhubei, and Hukou, leaving behind unique creative footprints. Wei Hsin-Yen invited locals for walks through performance art, capturing the warmth of companionship; Chung Yi-Chi printed the details of daily life, creatively incorporating Hakka flat noodles (ban tiao) into her work; and Lin Kuan-Ming used video to record the diverse landscapes of Hsinchu. During the sharing session, the artists beautifully presented local history and culture through the lenses of “Hsinchu Impressions” and “Residency Creations.” Special thanks to Professor Huang Hai-Ming and all the friends who attended for making the event a great success.

The artists shared their creative philosophies: Lin Kuan-Ming combines sound and moving images for a unique audiovisual experience; Wei Hsin-Yen uses performance art to turn walks and conversations into art; and Chung Yi-Chi carves cardboard into textured prints that evoke a journey through time. Guests then enjoyed hands-on workshops in video interaction, “story massages,” and woodblock printing, while sharing Hakka tea and treats in a relaxed, inspiring atmosphere.
